Dr. Jay Edward Adams presently serves as an Associate Professor of Practical Theology at the Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. In addition, he functions as a Counselor at the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation. He is in great demand as a speaker and lecturer at ministerial and Bible conferences.
His undergraduate degree (A.B.) was gained at Johns Hopkins University. He has also received a B.D. from the Reformed Episcopal Seminary, a S.T.M. from the Temple University School of Theology, and the Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. He has held Presbyterian pastorates in both western Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Dr. Adams also enjoys a very active and helpful writing ministry. His books include: The Time is at Hand (1970); Competent to Counsel (1970); Pulpit Speech (1971); The Big Umbrella (1972); Christian Living in the Home (1972); The Christian Counselor's Manual (1973); The Christian Counselor's Casebook (1974); and Shepherding God's Flock (1974). Some published pamphlets are Christ and Your Problems, What to Do about Worry, and Godliness through Discipline.
Dr. Adams is married and is the father of four children: Holly, Todd, Clay, and Heather.
