Dr. Duane Litfin became Wheaton College's seventh president on August 1, 1993, succeeding Dr. J. Richard Chase.
Dr. Litfin earned a B.S. degree in biblical studies from Philadelphia College of the Bible, a Th.M. degree in Christian education from Dallas Theological Seminary, a Ph.D. degree in interpersonal communication from Purdue University, and a D.Phil. degree in New Testament studies from Oxford University.
He came to Wheaton College from Memphis, Tennessee where he had served the 1,900-member congregation of First Evangelical Church as Senior Pastor since 1984. For ten years prior to that, he was Associate Professor of Pastoral Ministries at Dallas Theological Seminary. He also taught at Purdue University and Indiana University.
Dr. Litfin is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society. His writings have appeared in numerous journals and Christian periodicals. He has written a textbook titled Public Speaking: A Handbook for Christians and has edited, with Haddon Robinson, another volume titled Recent Homiletical Thought. He recently finished the writing of another book, St. Paul's Theology of Proclamation, which will be published later this year by Cambridge University Press.
