“The most unique feature of Cedarville University is its century-long commitment to orthodox biblical Christianity, a course spanning two denominations and eight presidents. Four of those presidents had a clear vision of the mission and four did not. Indeed, throughout Cedarville’s history there have been three key ingredients that have been essential to maintaining this mission: first, a firm attachment to a specific church constituency; second, a strong executive leadership; and third, a solid relationship with the local community. When these three ingredients were in place, the institution prospered. When these ingredients were not in place, the institution struggled. Cedarville stands as a marvelous testimony to what can be accomplished when an institution is faithful to its mission. Cedarville entered the twenty-first century committed to the same values that were the foundation of the institution well over a century ago. Throughout both the Presbyterian and Baptist years, the key to success has been to maintain the mission.”
