Rocket, a curious little dog who loves to learn, is busy developing his writing skills with his teacher, the little yellow bird. To challenge him, the little yellow bird has Rocket “collect” words from his everyday life, and eventually asks him to write a story. Rocket has trouble finding inspiration—until he meets a shy owl. This book is an excellent introduction to the writing process for young children: it deals with grammar and description, finding a subject to write about, and even how to deal with writer’s block. The illustrations are colorful and cute, which will keep the interest of young readers invested as well. Recommended. Reviewed by Mollie Nelson, Centennial Library Intern.
