Martha McMillan's daughter, Clara, completed the entries for June 3 through June 16, while Martha and her husband were in Monmouth, Illinois, at Monmouth College for Fred McMillan's graduation. Martha maintained a separate journal for June 4-17, which she then sewed into the back of the 1896 journal.

Pages 125-126 have been removed, probably by Clara McMillan, since the narrative continues uninterrupted on page 127.
