The Easy Instructor by William Little and William Smith was first published in 1801. Its distinguishing feature was the use of four separate shapes that indicated the notes according to the rules of solfege. Cedarville University's copy is an original copy of a later edition, printed in 1828 by Websters & Skinners and Oliver Steele in Albany, New York.
