Abstract
The present article offers a survey and exposition of the acrostic poems in the Hebrew Bible. It also draws attention to the limited vocabulary stock within these poems for the representation of the letters of the alphabet. Current explanations of the purpose for the Hebrew acrostic poem in antiquity do not account for this phenomenon.
