Callan Athletic Center
Callan Athletic Center, which opened in 1981, honors long-time Cedarville coach, professor, and athletic director, Dr. Don Callan. Don Callan first came to Cedarville in 1960 and served the university for fifty years. During his tenure as athletic director from 1961-1998, he expanded the Yellow Jacket Varsity program from two teams to fourteen. With his 35 years as head men’s basketball coach, he ranked third in the number of coaching wins (578) in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. His teams won four Mid-Ohio Conference championships and three National Christian College Athletic Association Midwest Region titles. In 1982 he was named Cedarville’s Faculty Member of the Year. In 2003, the University named the athletic center in his honor and he was inducted as a charter member into the Cedarville Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2012, Dr. Callan was inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.
Currently, the facilities at Callan Athletic Center host a courtside venue that seats up to 3,000 fans. Callan also houses various facilities for recreational use: three racquetball courts, a climbing wall, weight training and athletic training facilities. Attached, Doden Field House, with room for 7,000 visitors, hosts three recreational courts suitable for basketball, volleyball, tennis, and soccer; two 125-foot runways for long jump, two pole vault plant boxes, and 200-meter track. In 2022, a state-of-the-art weight room and training facility was attached to the Callan Athletic Center for Yellow Jacket student athletes.
