Contributor's Note

This poem was written on a cold, Campus-Christmas night as a celebration of the miracle of Christmas, which is the miracle of the incarnation. I had just read some of the metaphysical poems of John Donne, and the strangeness of his conceits gave me an avenue to ponder the strangeness of heaven and earth meeting in Jesus Christ. The very language of “texture” in this poem seeks to give emphasis to the tangibility of the yet incomprehensible God, and I hope it speaks not of Gnostic salvation but of the real way in which all things, visible and invisible, are being brought together under Christ in his new creation (Ephesians 1:10).
