Contributor's Note
Dear Editors, I hope you enjoy reading this 206-word non-fiction hermit-crab essay, “Self-Service Snellen Test.” The topic of glasses and vision loss is something I have wanted to explore for some time. My own vision has been steadily deteriorating since I was in middle school, my entire immediate family has heavy prescriptions, and my great-grandmother went blind in her mid-forties. These factors have led to anxiety about the future of my vision. The format of “Self-Service Snellen Test” seemed to be the perfect way to explore this topic because almost everyone has taken one of these tests. I believe the Cedarville Review is the perfect journal for this piece because many Cedarville students wear glasses and may have dealt with the emotions surrounding them and vision loss. Also, “Self-Service Snellen Test” explores what it is like to live in a fallen world. No one was made to experience vision loss, and as Christians, we hope for the day that God makes all things new, including the vision of millions who want to experience the glory of his creation without needing glasses. Thank you so much for your consideration, Elise Hunnemeyer
