In June 1887, the original 9.3 acres of land for the College in Cedarville was purchased from the Orr family and this deed was made out to Thomas Gibson, one of the five founders, and his wife, Frances W. Gibson, for the sum of $1,116. Gibson was a wealthy businessman from the Plum Street Reformed Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. Two days after the purchase, the property was transferred to the Board of Trustees of Cedarville College.
