Abstract
George Hunt Pendleton, the vice presidential running mate of George Brinton McClellan in 1864 and a US senator from Ohio, chose to become a Democrat during the 1850's because of the influence of his father, Nathanael Greene Pendleton, and his political ideology. Nathanael had also been a US senator from Ohio.
