Beautiful illustrations and a simple retelling of the story of Jesus make this book one to treasure. Grun, a Benedictine monk, tells Jesus’ story from Mary’s meeting with Gabriel to his resurrection, using parables to show the key characteristics of Jesus. The illustrations accompany the text, adding to the overall peaceful feeling of the book: this is not a crucifixion story, a Christmas story, or an Easter story, but a story about the moments of Jesus’ ministry that reveal him as the Messiah. Best suited for elementary-age children with at least a basic understanding of Jesus’ life, who would find this book a treat read alone or aloud as part of a group. Highly recommended.
