Mabel finds adventure wherever she looks, but that doesn’t seem like a good thing to her when a cryptic old woman moves into her parents’ hotel. Mabel names the mystery woman Madame Badobedah and suspects that she is a jewelry thief on the run. Through the multi-chapter story of Madame Badobedah, Sophie Dahl presents a whimsical lesson in kindness and friendship. Children transitioning from picture books will find this to be an engaging introduction to the chapter book style. Lauren O’Hara’s illustrations implement the fantastical imaginations of Mabel into the story in a natural way. Recommended. Grace Kohler, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University
