Review

The reader visually follows a young boy and his dog as they leave his grandmother’s house to travel through strange and imaginative lands. As they encounter mythical creatures and giant people, floating islands propelled by windmills, castles with pigs on their coats of arms, and cat-lands, the reader is charmed by the detailed drawings. Although largely wordless, the book easily engages children through the drastic scenery changes on each page, and its “I Spy” quality, as the viewer frequently has to search for the boy and his dog on the busy pages. While The Dog Walk would not be the most suitable for story times with parents or teachers, children who enjoy engaging with art or love individual book times will be fascinated by this wordless journey!
