Review
Chester Van Chime awakens one day with a problem: he’s forgotten how to rhyme! As he goes about his day, Chester becomes increasingly frustrated, even with his classmates’ help. Eventually, Chester realizes that everyone has bad days and, though he should always give his best effort, it’s okay not to be perfect; rhyming should be fun. With the likable protagonist of Chester, readers will likely get a kick out of this humorous take on wordplay, especially if they read it out loud. This book would be great to read to a class, both in general and as an introduction to poetry. Having the children try to guess the correct rhyme as a fill-in-the-blank type game would help readers engage with the book. Additionally, the themes of always trying your best but being okay with not being perfect and finding learning fun would help encourage students who are struggling and hopefully positively influence their attitude toward education. “Try your best and have fun” is a great message for students, young and old alike. Highly Recommended. Alexis Chandler, Centennial Library Intern.
