Review

Though some would say that Warhol is a tenuous subject for a children’s picture book, Christensen does superb job of side-lining the rock and roll aspects in her portrait to focus simply on Warhol’s life and art, challenges and successes. The book is composed in blurbs of Warhol’s life, from his introverted and sickly childhood to his successes as ‘pop culture king of cool’. Christensen deals delicately with Warhol’s eccentricities, giving a favorable and quiet portrait of a man who not only overcame his vices, but used his resources to create a new art. The illustrations are reminiscent of Warhol’s own work and are meant to inspire a museum visit to see his real works. An author profile is given as well as a full time line in the back of the book. I would recommend this for any art class that is discussing Andy Warhol. Recommended. Ariel Foshay Bacon, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University
