Why did Yankee Doodle go to town? In a whole new twist on the well-known song, this book presents Crankee Doodle, the man who did not want to go to town or wear a hat called macaroni. However, after hurting his pony’s feelings, he feels he must oblige. This story is written in a goofy and wordy style. The titular character is appropriately whiny and cranky. The font is a bit difficult to read and the illustrations, while colorful, are unimpressive. Optional. Taylor Wilcox, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University.
