Comments
Pages 33-34 have been removed, probably by Martha McMillan, since the narrative continues uninterrupted on page 35.
The entries for the year conclude on page 180 with the entry for December 31. At this point, 68 smaller pages (5.75" x 9.25") have been inserted into the journal. These pages are Martha's account of her visit with her daughter, Fannie, in Pine Bush, New York, from November 5, 1894, through January 2, 1895. While Martha was away, other family members recorded each day's events. Although Martha wrote on November 4, "Jason to keep at this book while I am away", there are at least three different styles of penmanship evident for November 5 through November 10. Martha added the following to the end of the journal: "When I came home and found that Clayton had kept this book faithfully every day since the 5th of November..." Therefore, the entries from November 10 through the end of the year must have been written by Clayton.
