Dr. Clifford Johnson came to Cedarville University in 1962 as Registrar and Director of Admissions. He was promoted to Academic Dean in 1964, with the title later changed to Academic Vice President, and served as the administrator to which athletics directly reported until 1987. During that timespan, the Lady Jacket athletics program grew from volleyball and basketball to also include cross country, softball, tennis, and track & field.
Johnson went on to serve as the Assistant to the President. He was named the 1998 Cedarville University Honorary Alumnus of the Year and fully retired from the institution in 2003.
