Martin Luther, music

Proposal

While Martin Luther’s message of the Reformation was circulated through a variety of sources, one must consider the use of music in the Church as being very influential in the spreading of his ideas, since music was highly regarded by Luther. Luther emphasized the value of God’s Word, and he saw music as a means to share the Truth from the Bible. Luther even compared the importance of music to that of theology. He claimed that music was a gift from God and was capable of fighting evil and promoting good. Luther’s theological stance on music determined his purpose for music. The research that I conducted traces the effects of music on the transmission of Luther’s message through considering Luther’s reasoning for his high regard for music both musically and theologically, Luther’s use of music to share his beliefs, and the impact of music on Luther’s message. Through understanding Luther’s value of music, its use becomes clear. The overall influence of his music is shown by the response of people to it and its lasting effects. The paper “Music as a Means to Spread Martin Luther’s Message” therefore indicates that music greatly impacted Luther’s message.
