Proposal
The 10 pieces from Romeo and Juliet written by Sergei Prokofiev, was written based on the orchestration from the ballet he had written in 1937, two years after he composed his ballet. These 10 pieces may seem on the simpler side, but because of the different instruments in the orchestration, it is more challenging to learn. There are different pieces that I have decided to perform for this presentation. These pieces are Montegues and Capulets, Friar Lawrence and Mercutio. I will demonstrate how different instrumental forces are performed in the orchestra in each of these pieces, as well as how I am able to reimagine them in each of these pieces. It is also very important to understand the story line and the ballet dancing that is performed with each of these pieces to be able to appreciate the entire work on only the piano. The performing instrumental forces will include but are not strictly, the low brass OOM-PA sections, the strings playing a high dancing melody, the winds having a solo in a very emotional section or the percussion section deciding a fatal end to a main character. These will all be performed on one piano and demonstrated as such.
