Description
The Olney Hymns, first printed in England in 1779, was a collaboration of John Newton and William Cowper, the poet. The hymns were written for use in Newton's rural church in Olney, England. This copy of the Olney Hymns is a first edition printed in London in 1779. The hymnal is open to Newton's most famous hymn, Amazing Grace. Note that there is no music in the hymnal. The words were sung to tunes well known to the worshipers and announced by the worship leader.
