Patti Kim’s Here I Am is a picture book that describes a young boy’s response to moving to the United States from another country with his family. The book details his progress from alienation to acceptance as he explores the world beyond his window. Kim’s goal in writing this book is to share her own experiences with those who may be facing a similar situation. The images are evocative and fit the story that Kim seeks to tell. They reflect the young boy’s feelings of uncertainty in a new space. The book seeks to include those who feel unwelcome and educate others on the experiences of immigrants. This book would be perfect for a classroom and could be used to promote inclusion and sensitivity to the experiences of others. Highly recommended Allison Jensen, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University
