Review

John Newbery, famously known as “The Father of Children’s Literature,” was an innovative man with an imagination and a heart for publishing books for children. The famous Newbery Medal literary award is named in his honor. In this book, Michelle Markel does a fair job of delighting readers with alongside Nancy Carpenter’s illustrations - the color, the humor, the expressiveness, and the sheer creativity all works together to give the reader a feast for the eyes. The storyline is good, and the variation of text size and font within the book at different times will captivate children. Overall, educators and librarians alike could use this book as a nifty read about the beginning of the genre of children’s literature.
