Amid the challenges of a new language and social setting, a young immigrant mother and her baby discover a library and fall in love with books. Based on the author’s own experiences, this mother and child look to the future with hope because of their love for family and the new sense of personal value brought about by encouragement of library staff. A positive story about the struggles of a new migrant family and the kindness of the local community, it conveys a good message about empathy and the intrinsic worth of human beings. The author’s unique illustration style provides a glimpse of her culture and lends to the overall message of her story. Useful for cultural or social studies, and good for both individual or classroom usage.
