A picture is worth a thousand words, and in this illustration-rich book, this certainly holds true. An American-Vietnamese boy and his grandfather have to spend the day together, but have trouble communicating because of the language barrier. Through their shared passion for art, they are able to bond as grandfather and grandchild. A beautiful, albeit short textual story, puts a positive spin on language and intergenerational gaps. Useful for cultural or social studies, readers might prefer to appreciate the illustrations in individual readings.
