Young Katherine Johnson went from counting everything around her to being the gifted mathematician that NASA counted on to calculate flight trajectories in the early days of the space race. This book tactfully navigates the trials of racial segregation and gender inequality Johnson faced in her journey to become a professional mathematician. Carried by family, friends, and Johnson’s own determination, this is a positive and inspirational story for all ages. The illustrations are fun and lend to the telling of the story. Good for history, social studies, or general reading.
