Review

A young girl, nicknamed “Little Doctor” by her crocodile patients, takes care of them with tenderness and in awe of the power and tales of danger. One day, a legendary crocodile, Big Mean, comes to Little Doctor. However, Big Mean’s skepticism prevents the Little Doctor from being able to assist her. It is only after observing the Little Doctor’s gentleness and love for her other patients that Big Mean is able to overcome her prejudices against this human doctor and receive the aid she needs. This picture book provides an excellent metaphor for overcoming prejudice and living bravely, in love and acceptance. The illustrations provide a whimsical yet realistic and believable world to explore this tale. Parents can share this book as an early example of treating everyone with compassion and love, despite differences in appearances. Highly recommended, Anna Jennings, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University
