Fans of The Nutcracker ballet will adore this retelling by Jan Brett. Her cozy artwork guides you through the Christmas party, the battle with the Mouse King, the winter wonderland, and back home. Side panels provide past and future context for the main illustrated scene. Various animals can be seen playing lines of the Nutcracker as he and Marie make their way through the book. Brett’s artwork is warm and inviting like a cable-knit sweater, though it does not take away from the urgency or delight of each scene. The text is placed in a uniform manner that is easy to read and enhances the reading experience. This would be an excellent book to add to your collection, simply for the sake of enjoyment. Highly Recommended Morgan Rupp, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University
