The Survivor Tree could be used as a supplemental tool when history is being covered in the classroom. It tells the story of the tree that stands between the 9/11 memorial pools; where it grew until the events of 9/11 and how it was replanted as a memorial. The text and illustrations concerning the Twin Towers and their collapse are implied, almost to the point of being too vague to understand. Already knowing about 9/11, an older reader might connect the tree with the towers, but a child with little knowledge would be very confused. The illustrations are colorful and present the subject in a realistic, yet subtle manner. Additional Purchase Morgan Rupp, Centennial Library Intern, Cedarville University
