Autumn Peltier, Water Warrior tells the story of Josephine Henrietta Mandamin and her great niece Autumn Peltier and their love for and desire to protect the water. The story is told from the poetic perspective of the water and its gratefulness for these indigenous women as they have worked tirelessly to protect this life-giving source. Josephine and Autumn have a spiritual connection to the water and believe that it is the source of all life. The story follows the generational activism from Jospehine to Autumn through the urgency of water pollution and the spirit of activism. The Aninhsaabe cherish and love this water as a friend. This book informs young audiences about the consequences of water pollution through the touching story of two indigenous women and their love for the water and this encourages young readers to join in and advocate for this crisis.
