Proposal

America’s foster care system continues to reform for the benefit of those individuals that have grown up within the structure. Despite the resources offered to foster youth across the country, little is accessible to that same population as they age out of the system. The programs that are available to these young adults vary in availability and funding throughout lower and higher income communities. It is important to facilitate success for the same individuals that were reliant on a flawed system their entire lives. Aging out of this dependency is at times, a fatal learning curve. Without equal opportunities available to this demographic, these disadvantaged adolescents will suffer from a lack of preparation as they enter into their adult lives. Through a literary inquiry of differing journal articles and data, the findings of this symposium point to a need for change. This research project seeks to establish a common goal of closing the gap between the aged out youth of America's foster care system and the individuals that still rely on it. This is a multivariable analysis of the efficacy and the availability of aged out foster youth programs in relation to socioeconomic status.
