This presentation explores the women of early opera and how they maneuvered through a world where both the stage and the audience was not very welcoming. The women who were able to masquerade as men during the reign of the castrati is touched on and the character development of women in light of the character development of men during this time is brought to light. The female composers who wrote operas and succeeded in capturing attention is also mentioned, but the main focus of this presentation is to inform others of the hardships women endured to allow future generations to be accepted in the world of opera.
